Crickhowell FC in Development Drive!

Posted: 16th March 2024

Founded in 1878, Crickhowell FC provides football to the communities of Crickhowell and surrounding areas for all age groups, from under 6s through to senior football.  The Club currently has around 250 registered players throughout these age groups but aside from this, it has many non-playing members and supporters, making Crickhowell one of the best followed teams in the region!

The Club considers itself to be one that the community can be proud of, bringing people together, whilst improving physical and mental wellbeing.

Community Impact

The local community is at the forefront of Crickhowell FC.  It wants to provide association football for as many people as possible, with facilities that give the community an opportunity to enjoy a high standard of football in comfort.

Local support for the Club is exceptional for the level in which it currently plays, with attendances as high as 100 in recent seasons and an average attendance of around 80.  With an ever-increasing cost of living, its aim is to continue to offer affordable entertainment on the doorstep of the community.

Away from the football, the Club’s facilities are used by multiple other groups.  Crickhowell FC holds an annual bonfire night which attracts around 1,000 people from the surrounding areas.  The ground also hosts the Crickhowell Car Boot sale, held in the dryer months of the year.

Development Drive!

The Club’s home pitch, the Elvicta Football Ground, is the heart of the club and the community.  Unfortunately, Crickhowell FC has suffered a number of setbacks in recent years, experiencing both severe flooding and a lack of income due to the COVID pandemic.  Despite this, a dedicated group of volunteers has managed to keep the club going and player numbers are up.

In order for the club to continue progressing, it needs to improve its home.  The aim is to make the ground more comfortable for spectators and accessible for all.  An early build of the proposed redevelopment has been put together by a local architect with an estimated cost of £80,000.   As such, Crickhowell FC has launched a Development Drive.

One of the main fundraisers currently in planning is a Race Night at the Clarence Hall from 6.30pm on Friday, 19 April.  Entry tickets for the Race Night can be purchased at Bacchus Off Licence & Wine Merchants or Cashells in advance for just £8 or arrive on the night and pay £10.  With horse racing, a licensed bar, delicious food, live music by 99% Chimp and a raffle, this is a night not to be missed!

This is in addition to a recently launched Crowdfunder, which aims to raise £10,000 by early May.  Further details on this are available at https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/crickhowell-fc-development-campaign-fund

The Club will also be fund raising at every home fixture; hosting a 5 aside tournament at the ground; and applying for funds from the Cymru Football Foundation to assist with a large chunk of the development.

Momentum is key to the success of this fundraiser, so please support Crickhowell FC in their ambitious plans!
