An afternoon treat

The expressive sound of the recorder takes centre stage at the Clarence Hall on Sunday, 11 October, when the Wales Recorder Orchestra returns for another of its popular Musical Tea concerts.

For many people, the recorder is remembered as a first school instrument, but this talented ensemble reveals just how versatile it can be. Performing on the full family of recorders, the orchestra creates a distinctive sound that is both surprising and captivating.

Conducted by Caroline Jones and Lyndon Hilling, this year’s programme includes Midsummer Meadow Suite, composed by Lyndon Hilling, together with The Banks of Green Willow by George Butterworth. Together, the two works promise an afternoon of lyrical melodies and evocative musical landscapes.

The concert will also feature a special guest appearance by Eleri Darkins, one of Wales’ leading performers on the Welsh triple harp. The harp’s unmistakable sound has been at the heart of Welsh musical tradition for centuries, and Eleri’s performance will add another distinctive dimension to an already varied programme.

The Musical Tea concerts have become a popular feature of the Clarence Hall calendar, offering audiences the opportunity to enjoy live music in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Tea and cake are included in the admission price, making the afternoon as sociable as it is entertaining.

The concert begins at 2.30pm on Sunday, 11 October.

Admission is £7 for adults, £1 for students, with free admission for children under 11. Refreshments are included.

Tickets are available from members of the orchestra, by emailing mirjam.morat@gmail.com, or through the Clarence Hall on 07541 121838. Please leave your name and the number of tickets required. Tickets can be collected and paid for on the day.
