Working in partnership for the community!

“The Big Help Out” aims to be the biggest celebration of volunteering in the UK, encouraging people to try volunteering for themselves, bringing communities together and creating a lasting legacy from the Coronation Weekend.

Volunteers at the Clarence Hall were delighted to “Help Out” on Monday, 8 May, combining efforts with other local organisations to put on an excellent Celebration Tea to mark the Coronation.  Cream teas were served on traditional tea services and entertainment was provided by talented local musicians, Ian Kimber on piano and Jonathan Bowden on trumpet.  The occasion was attended by over 75 members of our community, including representatives from local care homes and assisted living facilities.

The event was organised by the Trustees of the Clarence Hall, assisted by Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau (who ran a fundraising raffle), Crickhowell Pantomime Society, Crickhowell Rotary Club, Crickhowell Dial-a-Ride, Crickhowell Tea Party Foundation and Crickhowell Town Council.  A true community effort!

Commenting on the successful event, Deputy Mayor Ann Jeremiah, who gave the vote of thanks, commented: “Events such as this are at the heart of a thriving community and a testament to how local volunteer organisations can work in partnership for the benefit of us all”.

In an unexpected bonus for the Hall, the inclement British weather meant that the family oriented Party in the Park, organised by Crickhowell Town Council and planned for the evening of 8 May in the Castle Grounds, had to be moved inside! Fortunately, the various food and drink concessions were able to be accommodated due to the judicious use of the Hall’s newly renovated kitchen and a well-placed awning, ensuring that the community didn’t miss out.  Local bands Noted and Universal Translators took to the stage to delight an all-age audience!

Clarence Hall Event Director, Dian Winter added: “It was tremendous to see the Hall filled with fun and laughter once again.  I am so grateful to everyone who gave unstintingly of their time to ensure that both events were such a success!”
