Uskulele Group Shines at Jazz Afternoon
Posted: 4th August 2024On a ‘Sunny Afternoon’ in August, the Uskulele Group brought their unique blend of vibrant melodies and infectious enthusiasm to the Clarence Hall, turning the event into an unforgettable Jazz Afternoon. This talented ensemble, led by the charismatic Ian Cooper, captivated the audience with a diverse repertoire that showcased the versatility of the ukulele in jazz.
Their setlist included a mix of upbeat numbers and soulful ballads, ranging from ‘Georgia on my Mind’ and ‘Misty’, to ‘Sunny Afternoon’, each delivered with the group’s signature flair and featuring an impressive array of guest artists: Jodie Thompson on alto sax, Simon Burch on tenor sax and Robert Wheatcroft on drums. From the opening strum to the final chord, the performance was a celebration of live music.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the group’s interaction with the audience. Ian Cooper’s enthusiastic presence and engaging banter made everyone feel part of the show. Audience members of all ages were seen tapping their feet, clapping along, and singing to the well-loved tunes. The applause and cheers echoed the high spirits of the afternoon.
Here’s to many more afternoons filled with the sweet sounds of the ukulele and the joyous spirit of this group! Our thanks to the Trustees of the Clarence Hall for sponsoring the event.
