AAODS – Performing great shows for local audiences!

Posted: 11th April 2023

The Clarence Hall is home to a wide range of organisations that utilise its facilities for a variety of events.  In this feature we look at AAODS, Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society.

AAODS first appeared on the local music scene in 1911 when it staged its first musical, A Nautical Knot.  It has performed almost continually since then, the notable exception being during the War years.  The Society has a Senior Section and, since 1984, has run a successful Junior Section for children aged 8 to 18.

The range of productions undertaken by both Juniors and Seniors is wide and varied, tackling the classics and lesser known productions.  Both the Society and its individual performers have been regular winners of awards at the District and Regional level of NODA, the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

We are delighted that the Senior Section are performing ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at the Clarence Hall on 19-22 April.  With music by Alan Menken (other works include Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) and a story based on the comedy musical film, this isn’t one to be missed!  Tickets are available via the link or from Bookish in Crickhowell High Street: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/Abergavenny-Amateur-Operatic-Dramatic-Society
