AAODS – Performing great shows for local audiences!

Posted: 14th March 2022

The Clarence Hall is home to a wide range of organisations that utilise its facilities for a variety of events.  In this feature, we look at AAODS, Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society.

AAODS first appeared on the local music scene in 1911 when it staged its first musical, A Nautical Knot.  It has performed almost continually since then, the notable exception being during the War years.  The Society has a Senior Section and, since 1984, has run a successful Junior Section for children aged 8 to 18.

The range of productions undertaken by both Juniors and Seniors is wide and varied, tackling the classics and lesser known productions.  Both the Society and its individual performers have been regular winners of awards at the District and Regional level of NODA, the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

The Society has a high level of due diligence, care and best practice which is applied to all aspects of production, through audition, rehearsal and performance.  For Junior productions, the Director, Musical Director and appointed assistants have enhanced DBS certificates and the Society has a number of registered Chaperones.

We are delighted that the Junior Section are performing ‘We Will Rock You Young@Part’ at the Clarence Hall on 28, 29 & 30th April 2022.  Tickets are available at: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/Abergavenny-Amateur-Operatic-Dramatic-Society

Immediately following this production, rehearsals will commence for a combined Senior and Junior production of ‘Shrek’, which will be onstage at a refurbished Borough Theatre in Abergavenny between 1 & 5 November 2022.  Applications for new members will be welcomed following the Clarence Hall production.
