Captivated by Cups on a String
Posted: 25th October 2024The Riding Lights Theatre Company brought their compelling play, Cups on a String, to the Clarence Hall on 24 October, delivering a performance that captivated the audience. Organised by St Edmund’s Church, the play delivered a portrayal of mentorship through the fictional yet realistic relationship between Joe, an eleven-year-old facing hardships both at home and in school, and Heather, a 57-year-old volunteer mentor.
The production utilised a combination of live theatre, music and digital projections to create a dynamic experience that was thought-provoking. The performance highlighted the significant role a mentor can play in a child’s life, using warmth, patience and genuine care to foster hope and resilience.
The portrayal of Joe’s struggles and his journey towards trust was handled with sensitivity, while Heather’s character exemplified compassion and understanding. Joe’s gradual transformation and Heather’s steadfast support resonated with the audience, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own capacity to make a difference in the lives of others.
