A choir for everyone
Posted: 8th January 2026Founded in 2011, Cantorion Phoenix is a mixed choir that brings together people of all backgrounds and abilities. Under the inspiring leadership of Musical Director Dian Winter, it has flourished from a small group into a thriving and much-loved part of the local music scene, performing regularly in Crickhowell, Govilon and the surrounding area.
At its heart, Cantorion Phoenix is all about community. It aims to give anyone who loves singing the chance to achieve a high standard of musicianship in an inclusive and supportive environment. There are no auditions, no requirement to read music and the choir welcomes individuals with diverse needs.
The choir also loves to give back. Each year, it helps to raise funds for good causes, supporting events and charities including VE Day 80, Cancer Research, SSAFA, Llanwenarth Chapel, Christ Church Govilon, St Cadoc’s Llangattock Lingoed and, of course, the Clarence Hall. This Autumn, it launched a programme of visits to local care homes, beginning with Foxhunters in Llanfoist.
Sharing the stage with local groups is another important part of choir life and in December, Cantorion Phoenix joined forces with Uskulele for a festive performance at the Clarence Hall.
New members are always welcome. If you enjoy singing uplifting arrangements in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, come along to the Clarence Hall on Tuesday evenings during term time, 7.30pm–9.00pm, arriving from 7.15pm. The Spring term begins on Tuesday, 13 January and there’s no obligation to join formally or take part in concerts. You can simply enjoy the weekly rehearsals or join in performances when you wish.
At Cantorion Phoenix, the aim is simple: to have fun and share the joy of music!
