Crickhowell Choral Society’s Opera Gala
Posted: 4th July 2024Congratulations to Crickhowell Choral Society for an excellent Opera Gala Night at the Clarence Hall last weekend.
The evening’s repertoire was a carefully curated selection of operatic masterpieces that highlighted the development of the form from Monteverdi to modern times. It was designed to showcase the diversity and emotional depth of opera, and it succeeded brilliantly.
The Choral Society, under the skilled direction of their musical director, Stephen Marshall, presented a programme that included well-known choruses from Bizet’s Carmen, Verdi’s La Traviata, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Wagner’s Flying Dutchman, alongside earlier masterpieces by Handel, Gluck and Purcell.
The concert also provided the opportunity to showcase the amazing talents of the Society’s present choral scholars, both as solo singers and instrumentalists. Their performances complemented the concert’s dramatic theme and drew enthusiastic applause from a captivated audience.
This event not only highlighted the talent within the Crickhowell Choral Society and its Scholars but also reinforced the importance of supporting and celebrating local cultural initiatives. For those who missed the evening, the Society’s next performance is on 23 November at Brecon Cathedral when they will be performing with Brecknock Sinfonia.
