Dance Beats’ Wonderland was a Wonder!

On Sunday, 26 June, a delighted audience at the Clarence Hall was privileged to experience the wonder of “Wonderland”, a performance that showcased the talents of Crickhowell’s Dance Beats, with a guest appearance from Toppers School of Dance and Drama.  How fortunate we are to have an organisation such as this in our community where creativity, imagination and dance skills are nurtured in a positive way!

Dance Beats, which is one of the Clarence Hall’s regular users, runs classes for children and young people, aged 4 to 16.  A range of dance styles are taught, including contemporary, street and musical theatre routines as well as choreography and performance techniques.  The classes aim to provide an environment in which children can build confidence, have fun, work creatively together and, with the guidance of teachers, devise movement work of their own.  Above all, Dance Beats seeks to instil a love of dance through providing children with the opportunity to be involved in the performing arts.

Students are encouraged to hone their skills and demonstrate their class work at the end of term where they gain performance practise in front of friends and family, whether this is in dance shows, local pantomimes or community events.

These fun and friendly classes operate during term time, out of school hours, at the Clarence Hall.  Each term runs for approximately 12 weeks.  Outside of school term, Dance Beats organises performing arts holiday workshops, covering a variety of dance styles, drama techniques, singing and choreography skills.

Dance Beats is the brainchild of Emma Evans and Natalie Davies, Crickhowell based sisters who have both enjoyed performing since they were young. Between them, they have grades in ballet, a degree and training in contemporary dance and have had the opportunity to perform on many stages over the years in the UK, including the Theatre Royal in London’s Drury Lane.  They are a talented pair who have taught in other dance schools and have choreographed large scale performances.
