Earworms with Tabea Debus & Toby Carr
Posted: 23rd February 2025Music lovers were treated to a special performance at the Clarence Hall this weekend. As part of the Playing Day for the Society of Recorder Players Wales, we welcomed internationally acclaimed recorder player Tabea Debus, recorder professor at the HMTM Hannover. Collaborating with her was lute virtuoso, Toby Carr, a professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
In this fascinating exploration of earworms, Tabea and Toby led the audience on a journey through time, moving from anonymous medieval dances to the works of John Dowland and others, before culminating in the contemporary brilliance of Gareth Moorcraft’s Diaries of the Early Worm, written for Tabea. Their virtuosity, seamless collaboration and insightful comments made for an unforgettable evening of music, showcasing their exceptional musicianship and the depth and versatility of these historic instruments.
