Melodies from the Musicals!

Posted: 22nd May 2023

The Clarence Hall’s Lunch-time Recital Programme is a series of events designed to encourage live music performances in Crickhowell, with an emphasis on accessibility and easy listening.

The series is sponsored by the Clarence Hall for the community.  Admission is free but there is a collection for the Clarence Hall Refurbishment Appeal for those who wish to donate.

This weekend, the sounds of singers from local community choir Cantorion Phoenix and musicians from Rusty Recorders resonated through the Hall in a shared programme of music.

Cantorion Phoenix delighted the audience with their choice of numbers from the musicals, including Chess, Les Miserable, Mama Mia, an Andrew Lloyd Webber selection and a medley from Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat, finishing with one of the choir’s favourite pieces, As long as I have music.

We were also treated to a guest performance by Rusty Recorders, who were led by Caroline Jones, a recorder specialist who aims to promote the recorder through performance and teaching.  Caroline also leads Black Mountains Recorders, a regular performer at our Lunchtime Recitals.

We are so grateful to everyone who sang and played with such talent and enthusiasm and for our very appreciative audience who popped in to enjoy the performance.  Our next Lunchtime Recital is on Saturday, 1 July and will feature Crickhowell Community Band!
