Raising the Roof!
Posted: 11th April 2024Congratulations to everyone involved in this weekend’s Crickhowell Raises the Roof, a music fundraising night held on Saturday, 6 April at the Clarence Hall.
The night’s proceedings started with the Tenovus Sing with Us Abergavenny choir who had the audience singing along and clapping to a wide repetoire of songs. Their moving performance of Sing for Life, the song written for Tenovus, brought tears to the eyes!
Next up was Don’t Tell Billy, a combination of talented musicians from local bands Don’t Tell Johnny and the Hillbillies, who were performing together for the first time! They delivered a stunning, eclectic set which included a version of Leonard Cohen’s Dance Me to the End of Love and an emotive, original composition, Danny Bach, which imagined life on Mynydd Epynt before the area was cleared in 1940.
The final set was performed by the ever popular 99% Chimp, a well-known band from Llangynidr who raised the roof with their rock covers and filled the dance floor!
Huge thanks to Frank and Sam Ady from Treebeards Bar for their organisation, to all the volunteers who helped out so willingly and for everyone who attended. All funds raised will go towards Ukrainian Refugees in Wales, Tenovus and the Clarence Hall Refurbishment Fund.
