Showcasing local talent in a musical weekend

Posted: 21st November 2022

This weekend, the Clarence Hall resonated with the sounds of outstanding performances from three local music groups:  Abergavenny Borough Band, Black Mountain Recorders and Ventus Cambria.

Friday’s concert by Abergavenny Borough Band was part of the series of events being run for the Crickhowell Community and sponsored by the National Lottery Community Fund, the Clarence Hall and Crickhowell Town Council.  The Band, which is well established in the top divisions of Welsh Brass Bands, performed a programme of music that delighted everyone.

Saturday lunchtime saw a return visit by the Black Mountains Recorders as part of the Clarence Hall’s Lunch-time Recital Programme which is designed to encourage live music in Crickhowell. Once again, an enthralled audience listened to a diverse performance with members playing instruments ranging from the tiny garkleinflötlein to the large contra bass.

Sunday’s event was a Musical Tea organised by the Friends of Brecknock Sinfonia with the talented wind quintet, Ventus Cambria, taking centre stage.  Their varied programme included compositions from Ferenc, Haydn, Poulenc, Jacob and Loewe.

We are very fortunate to have been entertained by a range of performances that showcased the tremendous talent in our locality.  We are grateful to the musicians, organisers and sponsors who gave so generously of their time and resources to create a wonderful weekend of music!
