Uskulele in full swing

The Clarence Hall was brimming with rhythm and melody this weekend as the Uskulele Group returned for a special Jazz & Swing Afternoon.

From the first number, it was clear the audience was in for a treat. Under the engaging leadership of Ian Cooper, the group delivered a set that glided from the sultry sway of Sway to the romantic warmth of Blue Spanish Eyes, through the playful syncopation of Mack the Knife and on to the charm of Georgia.

A highlight for many was the audience singalong to timeless favourites including Fly Me to the Moon, Old Time Medley and Bring me Sunshine, which had everyone joining in with gusto. The sense of connection between performers and listeners was tangible, with smiles and toe-tapping throughout.

Adding extra layers of sound and style were a talented line-up of guest artists. Alongside the group’s ukuleles, the lyrical tones of the violin and the dynamic rhythms of the drums brought fresh textures to the music. The addition of guest guitarists added depth and authenticity, enhancing both the gentle ballads and the high-energy numbers.

Between songs, Ian Cooper’s easy wit and snippets of musical trivia kept the afternoon flowing with warmth and charm.

By the time the final applause faded, it was clear that the blend of jazz, swing and ukulele had struck just the right chord. It was an afternoon of great music, shared laughter and community spirit, leaving everyone looking forward to whatever musical magic Uskulele will bring to the Clarence Hall when they return in October.
